Thanks to all of the dedicated leaders from throughout Wicomico County Public Schools who committed their Thursday to taking part in the School Safety Summit, held at James M. Bennett High. The summit was put on by the Department of School Climate and Safety,, and was led by Tara O'Barsky, Director of School Climate & Safety, and members of her team.
The day's focus was on the first of Superintendent of Schools Dr. Micah Stauffer's strategic priorities: School Climate & Safety. Participants learned more about:
Physical Safety Layers (Preparing a Safe Physical Environment)
Setting the Foundation for Psychological Safety (Building a Strong Social Environment)
Tiered Response to Psychological Safety (Ensuring a Strong Attentive Environment)
Our schools and school system are preparing for a great 2025-2026 school year with safe learning environments that support learning, student achievement and engagement, a high-performing workforce, and ample opportunity for family and community engagement.

Wicomico Middle is truly proud of all of the many accomplishments of our outstanding students, and have enjoyed highlighting these accomplishments during several recent award ceremonies. First was our Young Business Leaders team in May, followed by our 7th grade teams, 6th grade teams, and our 8th grade teams.

The rain dampened our PBIS Carnival last week for our 6th grade students, so Kona Ice came back today for eligible 6th grade students to enjoy the treat they missed.

Today eligible students with no more than 10 absences for the entire school year were invited to our End of Year Attendance BBQ. Due to the weather, we held the BBQ inside, but we still had a great time celebrating the more than 488 students who have had excellent attendance this school year.

We have 4 early dismissal days this
week, June 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th. Remember with WCPS attendance policy, students cannot have more than 5 unexcused missed days in the marking term, or all of their grades will change to zeros. Early dismissal days do count as full days of school. For our last incentive, students who have missed 2 or less days of school from April 22-June 12th, will be entered in a drawing for Beats Headphones! We have 6 headphones to give away, but you must be present on June 13th to receive the headphones if you are a winner. 🎧Also, the top 3 homerooms for each grade level will receive water ice on June 13th. 🍧#ArriveToThrive

Today our PBIS team provided an incentive opportunity for eligible students to participate in the annual Wicomico Middle Carnival. The rain may have dampened some of our day, but our students still had a chance to unwind from a successful school year and have fun.
